Even though Jane Austen's novels were written hundreds of years ago, their universal themes of love and humor resonate even today, and have inspired many similar works.

Several films have been produced based on Austen's works, including three literal interpretations of "Pride and Prejudice". "Bridget Jones's Diary" is a more contemporary reimagining of Austen's most famous work. "Sense and Sensibility" has also been made into a film, as has "Emma". Like "Pride and Prejudice", "Emma" has also been interpreted for modern audiences with the popular comedy "Clueless".

Other films have been made based on Jane's life ("Becoming Jane"), or lives of people reading her books ("The Jane Austen Book Club", which was also a novel).
